This movement is led by the San Ramón Carbono Neutral Foundation, a non-profit civil organization that works to improve the quality of life of all people in San Ramón, located in the mountains of Costa Rica.

The Foundation was born 10 years ago with a single goal: to make San Ramón the first carbon neutral canton in the country and the world.

Although the pandemic negatively influenced actions to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality, at the same time it prompted the Foundation to promote an initiative that brings hope to humanity in these difficult times.

The Healing Trees movement was born to honor the millions of people who lost their lives due to COVID 19 and thus send a message of peace and hope to society. We will do it through the planting of trees as a symbol of life.

The need to continue working for the benefit of society led the Foundation to create this movement that promotes solidarity to the people of the world, who have lived closely the pain of losing a loved one and on many occasions have lost hope for a better future.

With that in mind, the San Ramón Carbono Neutral Foundation calls for individuals and organizations to unite with a single purpose: to honor the loved one we lost and send a solidary hug to those who lost and mourned someone close to them during this pandemic. Together we can heal.

More about the Foundation

The Foundation was born after the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of San Ramón drew up a first roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality in San Ramón. Since then, it has become the Foundation’s flagship thanks to the vision of a group of citizens, who by tradition, have always contributed to Costa Rica and its community.

The detriment of the environment and the promise that Costa Rica had made to be carbon neutral by 2021, led the Foundation to take clear and concrete actions to achieve this goal. Since its inception, it has made efforts to try to achieve the dream.

The Foundation has had approaches with the industrial, transport, tourism, commerce, and the agricultural sector; with the latter, generated agreements with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock to support the reduction of greenhouse effect emissions due to this practice.

Aware that achieving the goal requires not only the support of citizens, but also a clear will and active involvement of all political, governmental, and private entities, involving and motivating all people, the Foundation’s work has focused on generating these alliances.

Additionally, through an Education Commission, it has worked to raise awareness among the fellow citizens.
